World Hindi Diwas- 10th January
World Hindi Day, also known as Vishwa Hindi Diwas, is celebrated on January 10 every year and also commemorates the anniversary of the first day when Hindi was spoken in the General Assembly. United Nations in 1949.
Hindi speakers and devotees celebrate this day in India and around the world. It is seen as an opportunity to promote the language and literature written in that language.

The first Hindi Diwas convention was held on January 10, 1974 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The meeting was international, attended by 122 delegates from 30 countries. The purpose of this organization is to spread and promote Hindi. Since then, World Hindi Day is celebrated on this day i.e. January 10.
Later, Indian embassies in the European country Norway celebrated the first World Hindi Day.
World Hindi Day: History
In 1950, Hindi became the official language of the Indian Union. The official language of India is designated as Hindi in the Devanagari script in Article 343 of the Constitution of India. Rashtra bhasha Prachar Samiti, Wardha, came up with the idea for the first world Hindi conference in 1973. On January 10, 1975, Nagpur hosted this event.
His goal is to spread the language throughout the world. A total of 122 delegates from 30 countries attended the meeting. The first World Hindi Day was celebrated on January 10, 2006. Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister, adopted it. Many events are planned on this day around the world to honor and promote the rich heritage of the language.
These are usually organized by educational institutions and take the form of essay competitions, social gatherings and cultural events. Also, classes are held to teach people about the language. In collaboration with the Government of Fiji, the Department of Foreign Affairs will host the 12th World Hindi Conference in Fiji from February 15-17.
Why is World Hindi Day celebrated on January 10?
International Hindi Day is celebrated to mark the first World Hindi Conference. The conference was held on January 10, 1975 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The Prime Minister of India at the time, Indira Gandhi opened the conference and a total of 122 delegates from 30 countries attended the conference.
In 2006, Dr. Manmohan Singh announced that January 10 will be celebrated every year as World Hindi Day. It is also the first time that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs started celebrating the day abroad. On this day, various schools and colleges across India encourage students to participate in many cultural and literary events. Organized programs include essay, poetry and letter writing competitions in the language. Special events are organized to celebrate this day not only in India but also in Indian embassies all over the world.
How to celebrate that day
The Ministry of Crime in India celebrates this day every year (since 2006) by organizing programs and events around the use and promotion of Hindi. Sometimes the Indian postal service also celebrates the day by issuing special stamps to mark the occasion.
When the World Hindi Day (Vishwa Hindi Diwas 2023) was celebrated
on January 10, 2006. It was the then Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh. Since then, International Hindi Day is celebrated every year for the spread of Hindi in the world and awareness of Hindi. The aim of this is to establish Hindi as an international language. Indian embassies abroad celebrate this day with special programs and organize many events. For the first time in the United Nations, Hindi was spoken in 1977. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the then foreign minister, addressed the UN General Assembly in Hindi. At that time, Morarji Desai was in the middle.
The United Nations launched the project “Hindi @ UN” in 2018 to promote Hindi. These messages were changed to Hindi and that is still going on. On January 10, 1975, the World Hindi Conference was held in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi inaugurated the conference which was attended by a total of 122 delegates from 30 countries. For this reason, World Hindi Day is celebrated on January 10. While Hindi Day is celebrated on September 14, Hindi was accepted as the official language of India on September 14, 1949.
