On June 14, 2023, World Blood Donation Day will be celebrated again. In 2005, designated by the World Health Organization as an annual event, the day provides a unique opportunity to celebrate and thank voluntary blood donors around the world for donating blood and is a key point in -Focus on work to achieve universal access to safe blood.
Blood transfusion. Every donation is a valuable, life-saving gift and repeated donations are the key to making it a lasting protection.
In many countries, blood transfusion services face the challenge of making enough blood, ensuring its quality and safety. Lack of access to quality blood and blood products – especially in low- and middle-income countries – affects all patients, including those who require regular transfusions. One of WHO’s plans is to help low- and middle-income countries improve the availability and quality of human plasma, including promoting the use of plasma obtained from whole blood donations and enabling patients to receive life-saving plasma protein therapy.
World Blood Donor Day was recognized by four major international organizations in 2004, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations (IFBDO ) and the International Society of Transfusion. (ISBT). The day became an annual global event in 2005, during the 58th World Health Assembly.
June 14 has been designated as World Blood Donation Day to honor the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, the Austrian biologist who discovered the ability to transfuse blood between people with different blood types. At the beginning of a blood transfusion, bacteria often infect the blood, and this can cause serious illness and even death. Karl discovered the ABO blood group system in 1901 where blood can be transfused.
The WHO says that “Landsteiner discovered the ABO blood group in 1901, created the modern system of blood group classification, and in 1937, together with Alexander S. Wiener, discovered the rhesus factor, thus helping people a doctor can draw blood without putting the patient’s life in danger.
As a thank you to voluntary blood donors, World Blood Donor Day is observed to encourage people to donate blood regularly to meet the need for blood and blood products by ensuring quality, safety and availability for people disease in need.
In May 2005, at the 58th World Health Assembly, in front of health ministers from around the world, on June 14, Karl Landsteiner’s birthday was declared the International Day of Birth. Karl Landsteiner is an Australian biologist, physician and immunologist who developed the modern blood group classification system, low risk transfusions and discovered the polio virus in 1909. For his contributions to medical science , he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology. in the 1930s.
Donating blood is not only about saving lives and helping people take steps towards better health. It’s also about you and the benefits you get, only through gift cards. Here are the health benefits of donating blood that you didn’t know you could be enjoying:
Did you know that every time you go to donate blood, you are automatically registered for a health check? Well, it is important to check that the donor is healthy and able to donate blood. However, it does get free health checks from time to time, if you are a regular blood donor. It also helps identify any major health risks or possible blood infections.
Research has found that many cancer patients have higher levels of iron than others. Regular blood donation can monitor and improve the health level by a lot and it is only a matter of time before you get better health.
Too much iron in the blood can cause blood vessels to narrow immediately. These blockages lead to cardiovascular health problems and possible cardiac arrest. Therefore, a reduction in iron levels cannot be harmful. Go for it! Do yourself a favor and donate healthy blood for a healthier life.
Just as pain and suffering can cause psychosomatic diseases like asthma, acts of kindness and selflessness bring joy and satisfaction, which in turn creates a positive state of mind. Peace and unity live in the hearts of volunteers who are committed to making the world a better place to live.
