Trevor’s Biography

Trevor Noah , (born February 20, 1984 in Johannesburg, South Africa), is a South African comedian, television host, political commentator and author who is best known as The Host ( 2015 –) of the American television series The Daily Show. He is also known for his comedy films, 

which often include observations about growing up in South Africa. Noah’s mother is a Xhosa woman from South Africa and his father is a white man from Switzerland. Noah was born under apartheid, and because interracial relationships were against the law, his parents had to hide their relationship from the authorities. Noah was raised by his mother and grandmother in Soweto, an urban area on the outskirts of Johannesburg reserved for black people.

Fearing for his safety, they sometimes hide Noah from the police because tribal children are often taken away from their parents. After about 10 years, apartheid ended.

In 2002, Noah had an unpaid role in the South African soap opera Isidingo. He then hosted a teaching program on Public Family TV before hosting the Noah’s Ark radio show. When he was 22 years old, his friends asked him to perform comedy in a nightclub. He used funny stories about his friends and his life to keep the audience interested.

 After that night, Noah continued to perform in sports clubs, gaining many fans along the way. As his popularity grew in South Africa, he began hosting television shows, including a sports show and a dating game show, as well as major award shows. In 2008, Noah appeared as a contestant on the reality competition show Strictly Come Dancing. In 2009, Noah starred in his first solo film, The Daywalker.

The sold-out event took place in a 1,100-seat theater in Johannesburg, and the DVD version of the film became a best-seller. He then hosted the television talk show Tonight with Trevor Noah (2010-11). In 2012, Noah presented a second solo show, The Racist, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Scotland; he later toured with the show. Also in 2012, Noah, who immigrated to the United States, became the first South African comedian to appear on the American television show The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

In 2013, Noah starred in the television special Trevor Noah: African American. His concert tours in Europe, Africa and the Middle East were very successful, but he is still not well known in the United States.

In 2014, Noah began appearing as a reporter on Comedy Central’s satirical television program The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. The following year, after Stewart announced that he was stepping down as host, Noah was announced as his replacement.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah continues the series of half-hour news programs. An opening speech usually summarizes the main news of the day and includes a sarcastic or satirical joke. 

It is often followed by a “mock” episode with a funny story about an unusual topic or newsworthy story. The show concludes with an interview segment that usually features a celebrity or a major politician. The popularity of Noah’s Show in the United States grew in the United States and the Daily Show, especially after adding commentary on current international events.

Trevor started his career with a small role in the South African soap opera Isidingo in 2002. He later launched his own radio show Noah on Gauteng radio station, YFM. A film lover, Trevor left his role as an air personality to focus on his films.

During his early days in the industry, he had a blast with famous comedians such as Darren Simpson, Marc Lottering, Kagiso Lediga, Barry Hilton and David Kau among others. He not only performs with South African comedians but also with international musicians such as Carl Barron, Dan Ilic Paul Rodriguez etc.

While exploring the comedy industry, Trevor gets his name every time he performs. In 2007, he opened for Canadian comedian Russell Peters and American comedian Gabriel Iglesias on his tour of South Africa.

After a long time, Trevor returned to animation and became the host of “Run the Adventure”, an educational television show broadcast on SABC 2. He was also the host of the popular gossip show on SABC 2, “The Real Goboza”. Siyadlala was also part of the TV show he hosted. Shortly after his career, Trevor hosted a dating game show, The Amazing Dates, on Pabi Moloi. It means that dancing is as strong as the host of the show. In 2009, he hosted the third annual South African Music Awards and in the same year, he hosted Eugene Khoze in a reality competition called The Ax Sweet Life.

Trevor always gives his fans a show as he is the host of the 6th Annual South African Music Awards. Due to his huge fanbase, he started a show on DSTV, Tonight with Trevor Noah and MNet. The show was later transferred to DStv’s Mzansi Magic which helped boost the show’s popularity. Trevor’s other jokes include; and Vodacom Campus Comedy Tour, Jozi Comedy Festival and Bafunny Bafunny to name a few.

His comedy credits include Daywalker (2009), That’s Racist (2012), Crazy Normal (2011) etc. Eventually, Trevor became the Customer Security Manager for the third largest mobile network provider in South Africa, Cell C. In 2011, Trevor moved to the United States and in January of the second year, he became the first The South African stand-up comedian appears on The Tonight Show. In 2012, Trevor’s life was documented in a documentary called You Laugh But It’s True.

 Additionally, in 2013, he made his Late Show debut with David Letterman and served as the Comedy Central Roast Master for South African singer Steve Hofmeyr. In 2014 he worked closely with The Daily Show as a recurring contributor. However, in March 2015, he took over from John Stewart as host of the Daily show and began his tenure on September 28, 2015.

 In November 2016 Trevor released his first book on crime; A story from a young South African, which became a New York bestseller almost immediately after its release. It also became a very popular audiobook in 2016. The following year, Comedy Central extended the contract for a further five years through 2022, as the head of the station said that The Daily Show under Trevor was the first show in years.
