Steve Smith was born on June 2, 1989 in Kogarah, Sydney, to an English mother Gillian and an Australian father Peter, who holds a degree in chemistry. Smith attended Menai High School before leaving at 17 to play club cricket with Sevenoaks Vine in the Kent Cricket League in England.

He performed well for Sevenoaks and Surrey opted to use him in their second XI.
Smith was born in London; therefore, he has the right to be a UK and Australian citizen. In 2011, Smith began dating Macquarie University student Dani Willis, who is studying law and business.

While vacationing in New York in June 2017, the couple confirmed their engagement. On September 15, 2018, the couple got married in Berrima, New South Wales.

First, Steve Smith was selected for the U19 Cricket World Cup in 2008. So far, in this game, he has played as a leg-spinner and a low-spinner. In total, he scored 114 runs and took 7 wickets.

He also made his debut at the Sydney Cricket Ground in New South Wales against Western Australia. Then it was the New South Wales team that won. In addition, this team performed in 2009 “T20 Champion League”. Likewise, Steve brought many improvements to his game.

International Carrer of Steve Smith

In February 2010, he made his international debut for Pakistan in a T20 match. Elsewhere, in the same month, Steve made his ODI debut against the West Indies at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. In short, he is already one of the players of the Australian T20 team. So, he got a chance to play in the ICC World T20 tournament in 2010. Emerging as the tied second wicket taker, Steve and the Australian team completed the first runs.

Also in 2010, Steve played against Pakistan in England test series. So, in general, he has been a part of the team as an off-spinner and made his debut at the ‘Lords Cricket Ground’.

After a break from Test Cricket, Steve made his comeback in 2013. However, he regained his place as an important player in the Australian team. During the transition, Steve became a professional player not as a bowler but as a batsman. In summary, now Steve is known as one of the best test batsmen in the world. He scored 6,199 runs at a batting average of 61.3 in 64 matches. Also, he scored 23 centuries and 24 half-centuries in Test matches. As a result, he managed just 17 wickets at 54.8 runs in Test matches.

ODI

When it comes to ODI matches, Steve has scored a total of 6,431 runs in 108 matches. At an average, he achieved his best score of 41.84, scoring eight centuries and 19 half-centuries. Also, he took 27 wickets at an average of 34.48.

IPL Carrer

Smith was first bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for IPL 2010. The following year, Kochi Tuskers bought him for USD 200.00. The Rajasthan Royals picked him up for the 2015 season and named him team captain in the second half of the season. Smith played for Rising Pune Supergiants in the 2016 IPL and scored his first T20 century that season.

He was named the captain of the team for the 2017 season. He led his team to the end of the 2017 season where they defeated the Mumbai Indians. In March 2018, after Cricket Australia banned him for his involvement in ball-tampering incidents, BCCI terminated Smith’s contract with Rajasthan Royals. Smith was named team captain for Rajasthan Royals in the middle of the 2019 season in which he scored 319 runs including three fifties.

Records and Achievements

Known as one of the best international players in the world, Steve Smith was voted the best batsman in the ‘ICC Player Ranking’ in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
In 2015, he won the “Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy” (“ICC Cricketer of the Year”). He thus became the youngest cricketer to receive this honour. In 2015 and 2017, he was named “ICC Test Player of the Year”. Thus he became the only player to win the title of “ICC Test Player of the Year” more than once. In addition, he was awarded the ‘Allan Border Medal’ for the best Cricketer in Australia in 2015 and 2018.
He is known as the only ODI player to score five consecutive 50s in ‘World Cup’ history, a feat he achieved in 2015 ‘Cricket World Cup’.
He is also the fastest Australian cricketer to reach 10,000 runs in international cricket.

Conflict

On March 24, 2018, in the third Test of the series against South Africa, Cameron Bancroft was seen using sandpaper to soften one side of the ball. Alongside Bancroft, Captain Steve Smith and Vice-Captain David Warner were involved in the incident. In the press conference at the end of the match day, Bancroft and Steve Smith admitted to tampering with the ball and Smith also admitted that “the management team” had made the plan.

They were forced to resign as president and vice-president of the Australian team. On March 27, 2018, Smith, Warner and Bancroft were suspended and sent home for allegedly contesting the match.

Smith was found guilty of misleading the players and others, and the captain did nothing to stop him. He was therefore banned from international and domestic cricket for 12 months from March 29, 2018. He was also banned from any team management position for another 12 months.
