History of Farmer Day

Farmer Day 2022 is celebrated on the birthday of Chaudhry Charan Singh, the fifth Prime Minister of India. By advocating and helping to introduce many measures for peasant reform, Singh contributed to the transformation of India’s agricultural sector before and after independence.

Who Is Chaudhary Charan Singh

Chaudhary Charan Singh was born on December 23 and every year National Farmers’ Day is celebrated in his honour. He was born in a middle class farming family in Noorpur, Uttar Pradesh. From July 28, 1979 to January 14, 1980, he served as the fifth Prime Minister of India. He is known as “champion of the Indian people” by historians and public. In 1923 he received his BSc from Agra College and his MA in History in 1925. He also studied law. He is practicing civil law in Ghaziabad. In 1929, he joined the Indian National Congress and opted for a full-time political career. Throughout his life he worked for the betterment of farmers and their families. The values ​​involved are hard work, independence and honesty. He went to jail many times for India’s independence.

He devised and enacted laws for the abolition of Zamindari. He led a war against communalism using Jawaharlal Nehru’s policies to save Indian farmers.
