History of Farmer Day
Farmer Day 2022 is celebrated on the birthday of Chaudhry Charan Singh, the fifth Prime Minister of India. By advocating and helping to introduce many measures for peasant reform, Singh contributed to the transformation of India’s agricultural sector before and after independence.
After the victory of the Janata Party, Singh succeeded Prime Minister Morarji Desai, serving in that position from 1979 to 1980. Singh worked to improve the lives of Indian farmers during his short tenure as prime minister. Many programs have been implemented to improve the social conditions of farmers. The Government of India decided to declare Singh’s birthday as Kisan Diwas in 2001 to celebrate his outstanding efforts in the transition from farmer to leader.
Who Is Chaudhary Charan Singh
Chaudhary Charan Singh was born on December 23 and every year National Farmers’ Day is celebrated in his honour. He was born in a middle class farming family in Noorpur, Uttar Pradesh. From July 28, 1979 to January 14, 1980, he served as the fifth Prime Minister of India. He is known as “champion of the Indian people” by historians and public. His father is Mir Singh, a self-employed farmer, and his mother is Netra Kaur. He is the eldest of five children. His family moved from village to village in Meerut in search of suitable land for farming life. In 1922, they found him in Bhadaula village. He studied in the village of Jani Khurd. He graduated from the government high school in 1919.
In 1923 he received his BSc from Agra College and his MA in History in 1925. He also studied law. He is practicing civil law in Ghaziabad. In 1929, he joined the Indian National Congress and opted for a full-time political career. Throughout his life he worked for the betterment of farmers and their families. The values involved are hard work, independence and honesty. He went to jail many times for India’s independence.

He served as the Prime Minister of India from July 28, 1979 to January 14, 1980. As the Prime Minister of India, he never met the Lok Sabha. Budget 1979: The budget was designed to meet the demands of the farmers in every aspect. He introduced many laws for farmers. He knew how to unite all the farmers against the landlords and moneylenders.
The law on the market of agricultural products was issued by the Assembly. It was intended to protect the interests of farmers against the greed of merchants.
He devised and enacted laws for the abolition of Zamindari. He led a war against communalism using Jawaharlal Nehru’s policies to save Indian farmers.
As a writer: He is also an effective writer and writes his thoughts about farmers, their problems and their solutions. Charan Singh died on May 29, 1987.
