Biography of Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal (31, born 16 February 1991; as of 2022), is a right-handed batsman and cricketer from Bengaluru, India. He plays for the Indian national cricket team. Now, in the third test match against Australia, Mayank made his international debut. In fact, on October 10, 2018, he started playing cricket.

He is currently in Australia for the four-match Test series. One of the most important sports centers in India is Bengaluru. Legends like Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Venkatesh Prasad, Roger Binny and Robin Uthappa were among those who trained in Bengaluru and contributed immensely to the country.

Karnataka has one of the strongest national cricket structures of any Indian state. With eight titles to their name, the Karnataka team is the second most successful Ranji Trophy team.

Players like KL Rahul and Karun Nair have shown a lot of promise for India at the international level in recent times. Agarwal, who has done well in the national circuit in the last three to four years and recently got an opportunity to play for the Indian Test team in December 2018, is one of the emerging players in Bengaluru.

Mayank Agarwal started his career as an all-white cricketer after his career in the Under-19 World Cup. Later, his performance earned him a spot in the India A team.

He made his Ranji Trophy debut in the 2013/14 season and each season he developed his reputation as an independent hero.

The season was 2017/18 when Mayank became the top scorer with 1160 runs in 9 matches at an average of 105.45 for Karnataka.

Who can forget his mammoth 304* innings against Maharashtra in Pune where he single-handedly won the match for Karnataka. At the same time, he scored 723 Vijay Hazare Trophy runs of 251 runs in 2018/19.

In the 2017/18 season, he set a new record for most points in an Indian home season with 2141 points. His performance in the long format proved that he has the skills and ability to represent India in the long format.

In June 2018, he received the Madhavrao Scindia Award for being the top scorer in the 2017/18 Ranji Trophy.

International Carrer

Mayank Agarwal has been named in India’s Test squad against West Indies. But he had no chance to play. Then, he was added to the Test squad for the tour of Australia in 2018.

He resigned from Australia’s strong position in the most famous place of all time. The first Test match of his international career took place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Agarwal was ruled out by Prithvi Shaw’s ankle injury which ruled Shaw out of the Indian Test squad. Mayank took full advantage of this opportunity and scored 76 runs in the opening match of the MCG Test match.

The score of 76 is the highest score by a player on his Test debut on Australian soil. Agarwal scored 51 points, which was the previous highest score. Agarwal scored 195 runs in the Test series played Down Under in the 2018 and 2019 tours. It was also included in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales. He replaced Vijay Shankar, who was absent due to injury. But Agarwal doesn’t have the team to prove his worth.

Agarwal scored 215 against South Africa in 2019. It was his first double ton in a Test match for India. He scored 215 runs in 371 balls with 23 assists and six sixes. After scoring his first two centuries, Mayank scored his next century against the opposing team, South Africa.

He became the second Indian batsman to score consecutive centuries after Virender Sehwag, who achieved the feat in 2009 against the Proteas.

Mayank Agarwal broke his two cents in Test cricket in his eighth Test match. He achieved this victory against Bangladesh, and scored 243, which was also the highest score in the test.

His knock of 243 broke the record of the great Sir Don Bradman. Mayank has scored the fastest double ton, and that too in his first 12 innings.

Then he was part of the series against West Indies and New Zealand. In 2020, India toured Australia again with Mayank Agarwal in the side for the three series.

He scored his 1,000 in a Test match and became the third fastest Indian to achieve this feat in the traditional format. But Shubman Gill lost it as he failed in the first three matches of this Australian tour. But he made a comeback against New Zealand in the home Test series. He scored 150 runs in the first innings and followed that up with 62 hits in the second innings against the Kiwis.

Agarwal also participated in the South African tour. He got off to a good start in the first test match at Centurion, and India won.

But he failed to deliver in the next two Test matches, and India lost that Test series even after starting it on a winning note. Agarwal was also named in the ODI series against West Indies. But there is no game.

IPL – In the past year

What do you do when you face the great Muttiah Muralitharan for the first time? 20-year-old Mayank Agarwal smashed his first six for six on his IPL debut while playing for his home team – Royal Challengers Bangalore – in 2011.

However, he was unable to translate that success into a lucrative tournament as he only amassed 120 points in 11 games.

Mayank Agarwal is still new to the international scene and is yet to make his T20 debut for the Indian cricket team. But in his short career, the 30-year-old has already made a name for himself, especially in the longest series of games. He has two centuries under his belt in just 14 matches. Agarwal made his ODI debut for India against New Zealand in February last year but is yet to score at the 50+ level. Here are some of Agarwal’s best achievements till date:

Agarwal is one of the few bowlers to have scored two double centuries in the same calendar year, one against Bangladesh and the other against South Africa.

Agarwal finished the 2017/18 domestic season as the top scorer (2,141 points). The BCCI awarded Agarwal the Madhavrao Scindia Award for finishing as the highest scorer in the Ranji Trophy in 2018.

Mayang Agarwal IPL Auction Price – (Updated 2023)

Delhi Capitals roped in the Karnataka batter for INR 1.60 crore in the IPL auction 2014. Agarwal was traded to the Capitals’ Rising Pune Supergiants in the 2017 IPL trade window.

Although there was little bidding for Agarwal in the 2018 IPL Mega Auction, he was sold to Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) for INR 1 crore. Ahead of the 2022 IPL Mega Auction, Agarwal was named the franchise’s top player on the catch list.

Ahead of the IPL 2023 auction, Agarwal was released by the Punjab Kings a year after he was promoted to captain.
