A.R. Rahman, full of Allah Rakha Rahman, first name AS Dileep Kumar. Rahman was born into a rich and musical Tamil family on January 6, 1967 as AS Dilip Kumar. He was born in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India. His father is a composer and director of Malayalam and Tamil songs.

So young, A.R. Rahman started attending his father’s studio and learned musical skills from him at an early age. At the age of 4, he began to learn the instrument piano and instead, his father died at the age of 9.

At the age of nine, AR Rahman accidentally played a tune on the piano while in the studio with his father, which RK Shekhar later developed into a full-fledged song.

He won six South Filmfare Awards for Best Musical Direction. He continued to collaborate with Indian poets and poets such as Javed Akhtar, Gulzar, Vairamuthu and Vaali, and created commercially successful soundtracks with directors Mani Ratnam and S. Shankar. In 2005, AR Rahman expanded his company Panchathan Record Inn, a recording and mixing company that he opened in his garden in 1992. In 2006, he started his own music label, KM Music. He starred for the Mandarin language film Warriors of Heaven and Earth in 2003 and signed with Shekhar Kapur for the British film Elizabeth: The Golden Age in 2007.

A turning point in his life came when he wrote the music for the 2008 British film, Slumdog Millionaire, which won two Oscars. The songs “Jai Ho” and “O…Saya” from his soundtrack are universal hits. At the end of 2012, Rahman’s music for Mani Ratnam’s Kadal topped the Indian iTunes chart for December.
