After independence, Gujarat region came under three states – Bombay, Saurashtra and Kutch. Gujarat, as a state, was formed in 1962.

From 1962 to 1995, the INC had varying degrees of success in this convention, forming governments on several occasions. Their main opposition during this period kept changing, from the Swatantra Party (liberalism) to the INC (O) (Congress party).

The INC lost in 1975 due to the presence of a strong opposition – many of whom united to form a short-lived coalition government. However, in the 1980s, they turned around using the KHAM system and won 149 out of 182 seats – the largest number in Gujarat’s history.

However, since the late 1980s, the BJP has begun to rise to national prominence, particularly in Gujarat, which serves as the party’s home state. In 1990 BJP was able to form a coalition government with Janata Dal, but the alliance broke within 8 months and INC became a partner.

Since 1995, Gujarat has been a BJP stronghold. BJP has won here consecutively for six consecutive terms.

However, in the early years of BJP rule, from 1995 to 2001, due to infighting and infighting, Gujarat saw four different chief ministers from two different parties. In the first term, BJP lost majority in the assembly and RJP formed the government. In the second term, the BJP retained its majority, but Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel resigned due to health problems, paving the way for Narendra Modi. After that, BJP is still strong.

Similarly, the party’s vote share was at 42% to 45% during its inception, but it has increased to 48% to 50% during Modi’s tenure (which lasted almost 13 years , until 2014 when Modi took over as Prime Minister). . In the last 8 years, Gujarat has seen 3 new CM faces including the first woman CM in the state.

However, despite the continued electoral gains, the BJP’s seats have gradually declined from 127 seats in 2002 to 99 seats in 2017. The INC again emerges as a strong opposition face, seeing an increase of 26 seats in the same period, mainly due to the shift from KHAM system to KHAMP system.

Gujarat state formation

On August 8, 1956, students from Ahmedabad reached a local assembly near Lal Darwaza and demanded a separate state. Massive protests have started all over the country. Meanwhile, Indulal Yagnik retired from politics and formed the Mahagujarat Janata Parishad to lead the movement.

Gujarat and Bombay were included. Then came the Mahagujarat movement in present day Gujarat region. Then, in 1960, Bombay was divided between the two, resulting in Gujarat.

In 1960, the first general election was held in Gujarat. In the election of 132 seats, the Congress won the election with 112 seats. From 1960 to 1975, the Congress ruled the state alone. In 1975, Congress lost seats for the first time. Chimnabhai Patel was the last CM of Congress in Gujarat. After that, the first non-Congress CM Babubhai Patel was appointed. But it didn’t last long. After the emergency, Madhav Singh Solanki was elected CM of Gujarat. He belonged to Congress. He resigned in 1985. Congress was later defeated in 1990. A coalition government was formed between the Janata Dal and the BJP. BJP started to benefit from it in 1995. In 1995, out of 182 seats, 121 seats supported the BJP. While the Congress was trying to gain power, the national leaders of the BJP decided to use a new president to overcome the anti-establishment crisis before the 2002 elections.

Narendra Modi was chosen for this, he said, he would play the role of playing. An international day instead of computing tests. In 2001, after Keshubhai Patel lost two seats in the local elections and handed over the government to Narendra Modi. The Model of Gujrat

Gujarat’s development journey has received a lot of praise both in India and across the world. Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, Gujarat is known for its progressive governance, where the people have become active partners and participants in the development journey. When Narendra Modi took over as the President, Gujarat was suffering from severe earthquakes. Droughts, hurricanes and floods in previous years have also slowed development. Everyone thought that the damage in Gujarat would take years to repair but Narendra Modi and his team proved everyone wrong by putting Gujarat on the road to recovery and development in record time. less than three years.

Narendra Modi

The whole world is talking about the development style of Gujarat. This is a model that celebrates the collective efforts of the people of Gujarat. Gujarat’s development journey is defined as development-oriented, inclusive and inclusive. Decisions were not made behind closed doors by elected officials, but were made after consultation with all stakeholders. Better use of technology has been made to reduce corruption and accelerate development. Another aspect of Gujarat’s development is that it is not part of the sector.

These three sectors namely agriculture, industry and services have contributed equally to the employment and growth of Gujarat. Under Narendra Modi, farmers in Gujarat experienced unprecedented prosperity. The annual Krishi Mahotsavs have brought many jobs and opportunities to the doorsteps of farmers. Farmers received a soil health map that gave them much-needed advice on improving their productivity. Special attention has also been paid to childbirth. Industrial development has reached new heights in Gujarat since 2001.

In 2003, the Vibrant Gujarat conference started a biennial which attracted investment to the state. At the same time, land acquisition laws put in place by the government ensure that no injustice is done to the people where companies are established.

Narendra Modi focused on health and education sectors. Since 2004, Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani Drive have been attended by all government officials, including the President, who visited villages in Gujarat to appeal to parents to send their children to school. This has produced dramatic results as school dropout rates have come down drastically since Narendra Modi took office.

The government in Gujarat has reached the last person in line. Thanks to Garib Kalyan Melas, the seeds of development reach the beneficiaries without any exception. In 2008, the Gujarat government launched the Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana, a special program dedicated to the development of tribal communities. Today, the package is worth Rs. 40,000 crore and brought smiles to the faces of many people across Gujarat.

A staunch advocate of youth-led development, Narendra Modi has put in a lot of effort to promote skill development among the youth. By building several ITIs, upgrading the curriculum and infrastructure, and integrating skill and technology development programs, a significant increase in skill development among the youth of Gujarat has been achieved. In fact, Kaushalya Vardhan Kendras of Gujarat won the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2013.

Over the years, Gujarat has received many grants from the central government, international organizations, eminent thinkers and the UN.
